Kendall Cliffs Review and Antiquing

As you all know last year I discovered the sport of rock climbing and instantly fell in love. When deciding to move to Ohio a rock climbing gym was one of the things on my list that I required. I had found one up in Peninsula, OH called Kendall Cliffs. I checked it out online, but they did not have many pictures of what the entire gym looked like. The website did say that it is a professionally - designed indoor rock climbing gym that offers top rope climbing, lead climbing, and bouldering.  I enjoy bouldering the most. I never did a lot of top rope climbing and I am not advanced enough to do lead climbing. After finding this gym online I was excited about it.

After I got here and settled in a bit I finally drove up to Peninsula, which is not far from where I am staying. On the drive up there I was excited and nervous. Aiguille was my rock climbing gym home. I absolutely loved it there. It was very laid back and the people, oh the people where so friendly and easy going. I would spend hours on my days off and a little time on the days I did work. It felt like my second home... besides my parent's house of course. The people had become like family. I would pack a book, snacks, and my climbing stuff into my bag and head over to the gym. I felt a little like I was betraying them.

I finally arrived at Kendall Cliff's. I was not impressed at first sight. The parking lot was far too small. I had a hard time driving around in it and finding a spot to park. They share a parking lot with an outdoor supply store. I went on a Saturday so it was fairly busy by the time I got there. I gathered up my stuff... my snacks, my gear, and the book on my phone. Upon entering the building I was again not impressed. It was a fairly small space. There are plenty of top roping walls, but hardly any bouldering (which is my favorite thing to do). There were no cubbies for me to put my stuff. There was hardly anywhere to sit, besides a couple of benches right inside the door. And very little walking space. There was no training/workout area. I like to stretch out with some yoga poses before I begin climbing to get loosened up, but there was no where for me to do this. One good thing: I had filled out my waiver online before I headed out. This helped because I did not have to fill it out when I got there. I walked up to the counter where there were a couple of guys standing behind it. They found my wavier and I paid my $16. In my opinion this was pricey for what I was getting, which was a day pass. I was paying about $38 a month for unlimited climbing and yoga at Aiguille. A monthly membership at Kendall Cliffs is $85.

After finding a spot on the floor to put my stuff I put my shoes on and then pulled out my chalk. I realized I hadn't seen anyone else using chalk. I took my bag up to the counter and asked if I was able to use it. The guy asked me for my bag and looked inside. He told me I could use it but try not to get it everywhere. Okay. Well the chalk gets loose and tends to spill out of the bag or poofs out when you close the bag. To say the least I was nervous about getting it everywhere because I am used to putting chalk on my hands, closing the bag and then throwing it off to the side. I finally began my climbing, which wasn't bad. I just wish they offered more bouldering. It happened to be very humid in the building and when this happens your hands soak up the chalk instead of providing a barrier. This means I kept having to reapply chalk, which is annoying. And wouldn't you know it one of the times I was putting it on I spilled the darn stuff on the floor. W-oops. I cleaned up as much of it as I could with my hoodie.

I ended up staying about an hour and half, mostly because I hadn't climbed in a couple of weeks and I was getting sore and I had other stuff to do that day. Another thing I disliked about this gym is their hours. There summer hours are Monday-Friday 5pm - 10pm Saturday 11am - 7pm Sunday 11am - 7pm. Aiguille was basically open all of the time.

I do not want to say this place was terrible because they have plenty of top roping wall space and there are a few routes that do not require a belayer which is nice if you do not have a partner, but I was disappointed. However, I will probably go back because it is the only indoor rock climbing gym around. I was just so privileged with Aiguille. Aiguille also had a yoga studio, that offered yoga classed throughout the week and was included in your membership. And you all know how I love my yoga.

After rock climbing I headed into Cuyahoga Falls to check out an antique shop that I had spotted while driving down there one day. Hidden Pearl Vintage Clothing is located on Front Street in Cuyahoga Falls in a little shopping area. I parked my car in the public parking deck and walked down to the store front. When I walked into the store I was not expecting to find what I did. Floor - to - ceiling and wall - to - wall stacked with hat boxes and suitcases stuffed with clothes. Racks of hats sat on top of every clothing rack. The racks are stuffed with jackets and dresses and shirts and skirts. This place was packed to the max. And I loved every bit of it.

Finally after sorting and squeezing my way through every thing I came out with 3 scarves and two shirts. And I was a happy camper.
